BEEN A WHILE

Been a while since my last post. Always there is so much happening here, so many unpredictable things. But then some constants as well. Like always teaching Tuesdays in the tea fields. These people are so so poor but they turn up every week for the last 3 years to learn the bible. And the kids....they are the best!! They wait for us and always come running to hug us and greet us. God provided bibles for 50 of them, so now I teach the kids first, then the adults. Plus someone from church asked to be taught, so we head to her home first then to the tea fields.  It's awesome!! It's hard to believe that June is almost over. I have so so much to do. I am very grateful for the long term students who are training for administrative roles, truly that will be a big big help to me. Just so grateful to God because he does so much more than we even realize.

HAPPY RETURN

Went back to teach in the tea fields after graduation and it was so adorable. The kids were waiting and came running to us. We told them to go get their bibles and they all went running in different directions to get their bibles, they were so excited!

OVERCOMING

Well, a lot of people have been sick here lately and I am no exception. I get an infection with lots of flu symptoms, then I get better, then I get sick again. It's been like that for 6 weeks now. I am at the tail end of being sick, today I am feeling much better. It hasn't stopped me from doing ministry, teaching, mentoring what ever God puts in my path. But other administrative things have fallen through the cracks. Today is much much better. 

I post teachings on social media and I don't often comment on comments but today there was a long long comment about the teaching I did regarding the Superbowl half time show and how believers need to focus on Jesus and our responsibility as believers to share the hope of salvation with the world. This commenter said that the teaching is "too passive and that I am deceived and how can I sleep knowing North Korea exists?" I didn't get angry, I did reply. 

Jesus didn't go around this wicked world pointing out all the wickedness. He pointed people to the hope of loving God. Yes, the world is wicked. It's a fact. Believers are not here to point out wickedness, we are no longer part of this world. We are here to shine the hope of Jesus, the light of the world. 

Another example would be Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, and even Daniel. They lived in the wicked city of Babylon, the ruler himself and the people worshiped and prayed to false Gods. Daniel and the others didn't run around pointing out all the wickedness. They lived according to God's will, the way they lived spoke much louder and running around and pointing out everyone's sin. In the end, the king and the entire kingdom came to know that there is only one almighty God. Not because of hate campaigns or complaints or aggressive behavior, but through these four people loving God with all their heart, soul, mind and strength. What is more powerful than that? Nothing. And, who gets the credit? God, not man. 

Anyways, let me stop preaching lol. 

We had two graduates from level 3 (40 classes) yesterday. We also have about 40 kids every week who come and listen. So to celebrate, we gave out kikamando (beans and flat bread) to 55 people (anyone in the community was welcome to come) and 50 bibles to the kids. No child left without a bible. Plus, cake, of course lol. It was a great day!

PROGRESS

Sometimes progress is very fast and sometimes very slow. But, progress IS progress. Construction on the dorm continues, right now we are putting in the ceiling of one side of the dorms, next will be the doors and windows of two rooms and one main entrance door. Then the doors, and windows to the main office, doors to the lecture hall, kitchen, water tanks, windows in the lecture hall, and then construction of the house can begin. Sounds like a lot but nothing is too big for God. We will still need to add the permanent floors in the lecture hall and dorms, but that can come little by little. Then we can tackle furniture - beds, chairs, desks, tables, storage cabinets etc. Plus there is the non-profit, we spend about $600- $900 every year on renewal and fees.

But before all that, there is the ministry it's self which takes up most of the monthly money coming in. Sometimes, it all seems overwhelming, but this isn't my ministry, it's God's ministry and He is the provider so I have faith. When I started living here in Uganda, I lived on $100 a month. I was naive and free actually. Now there is significantly more funds and significantly more responsibility. Still we need more, lol. Funny how that works.

EASTER

Easter came and went so fast. Here in Uganda, they have Good Friday, Easter Sunday and Easter Monday. I was truly blessed to be able to share the word on Sunday. We talked about Jesus coming out of the tomb. How God had a specific timing for resurrection (after Passover) and how even though the body of Jesus was in utter darkness in that tomb and the stone was impossible to remove. God did it. Jesus is our example in so many ways. When we face utter darkness and there is a stone in our path so big and heavy it seems impossible to go on, there is our Father, moving the stone and showing us the way through the Word of God, the Holy Spirit and Jesus himself. Easter is not only about celebrating what Jesus accomplished but also, living the way Jesus lived, with complete faith that no tomb, no Stone, nothing is going to stop the will of God in our lives no matter what the circumstances look like. 

The Holy Spirit surely is a great teacher!!! I am so humbled to be trusted to share the truth of God's Word. 

There is lots going on, but let me save that for another day :)

PALM SUNDAY AND TRAGEDY

Palm Sunday here in the village was pretty much uneventful. The message the Holy Spirit brought regarding Jesus entering Jerusalem and how this applies to our everyday life. 

I don't typically post the teachings the Lord allows me to share, but I was so excited to see how Palm Sunday should not only be celebrated but the experience applied in our own lives. 

Of course, today I learned of what happened in Nigeria on Palm Sunday that 40 people were killed in the churches on Palm Sunday. But today they are with Jesus and have a beautiful crown. 

Scriptures: Matt. 21:1-11, Mark 11:1-11, Luke 19:28-40, and John 12:12-19

main points: 

1) The disciples followed what Jesus told them to do, this led to a multitude praising God. (think about it...)

2) There is an order: First, listen (which requires us to be in the word), Second, Do what God says (even if it sounds impossible) Third, watch God Work. Fourth, He draws the multitude, or crowd. 

3) God will give different details to multiple believers to fill in the details. When we look at all four of these scriptures, we see more of the same picture filled in from each separate account.  

4) Timing.....Jesus passed by way of the Mt. of Olives (a place he often went to pray) and he entered Jerusalem when many people had come for the feast. Even the understanding of the disciples had perfect timing as seen in the book of John.

TWO DAYS IN A ROW, PRAISE GOD

Good morning!

I am so excited because even though I woke up a few times last night, I asked God to give me rest, and it worked! (of course, lol) So it's been productive, it is now 6:45 am, I got Sam up for school at 6, (he is a 13 year old boy that lives with me, he has been with me since he was 4). Made his breakfast (eggs and oatmeal) sent him off with water and a banana. Made the bed, put the laundry away, cleaned up after making breakfast, spent time with God, wrote my scripture for the day (1 John 3:22), grabbed a banana and now here we are! Feels great to accomplish what God has set me to do instead of sleeping in lol. 

Yesterday a need was brought to my attention. For several months now the senior citizen population has been on my heart. It's a segment of the population that isn't cared for here in the villages. Last week there was a jajaa (senior citizen) that was in desperate need of medicine. She was going to sell her goat to get some but the Lord had us step in and now she is receiving treatment. Yesterday there is a male jajaa that needs a procedure and the doctor went to the pastor but the pastor was not interested in helping (I believe it's a culture thing) So the team talked and we came up with a plan. This Jajaa doesn't even have food, and there is no help in the community. He is still pretty strong. We are going to give him work on the bible school land, maintaining it in exchange for food. We are going to get information about his procedure (one of the core team is a licensed doctor) and then go from there. 

Remember how I said the Lord told me to "be still" there are plenty of people here where I live that need Jesus, God will bring them to our attention and provide what they need, Jesus and tangible needs.

AND....ITS MARCH, HOW DID THAT HAPPEN?!?

Somehow today is March 23, where did the first quarter of the year go? It's rainy season here and so I have been a little sick. Sinus and extreme fatigue and yet God is still in charge.

It will be 10 years in Uganda this year and it's been a transitional year, with pinpoint focus on the foundation of the ministry. We have been asking some poignant questions; what are our mission, vision and core values? What scriptures are driving us? What administrative things need to change? What ministry activities should we be focused on? How are we going to be funded going forward?

These questions have led to some great team activities. There are now 2 members of the core team (there were 3) and we have been working together to answer these questions. This year of "foundation" has led to some changes in what we do. One member moved on to other things, our season working with a local primary school has come to a close, we are doing more one-on-one ministry by visiting homes and giving supplies (food, kitchen supplies, soap etc) and the schedule of going out and teaching in the villages has slowed down for now. Individual teaching of the current students has increased. Live teaching on social media has taken a hiatus and is about to be a big part of the schedule.

Also, construction on the bible school land has taken a front seat and is in full swing, praise God! We even brought the architect back to create the house plans so I can move down to the land and be right there with the school and the students of the school. These plans include rooms for visitors (very exciting).

It's an interesting time of transition. As missionaries, we are always "go, go, go". That's been my life these last ten years. This year the Holy Spirit is saying "be still, be still, be still". It's a little scary. The thoughts I have are "But Lord we have to prove to people that we are ministering, we have to keep going and put up pictures and teachings, or we will lose support." And he just says, "I am your support, do what I am asking."

OK, here I am being still....I am still a little squirmy....but God. 

As always, I hope that these journal entries will be more frequent.

THE ROAD WE WALK

Being a missionary has it's own set of challenges. But one thing that brings great joy is sharing the truth of God's Word and seeing the hope, joy and love it brings into a person's life. Even in the face of adversity, there is nothing I would rather do more than to share the Bible and have the privilege of witnessing the changes that knowledge brings. 

Excited for Uganda's National Day of Prayer happening in a few days, what a blessing to be a part of the planning committee for 8 years now. God really is good. I don't think I will ever be able to father how awesome He really is!

SACRIFICE

As you know, I teach bible school throughout Uganda. But also I am mentoring 4 people consistently and teaching 2 consistently at home in Lweteega. As a group we decided to start learning at 5 in the morning (I am not a morning person - at all) but I agreed because it was the only time that everyone is available. Truly it has been an amazing time of growth for us all. Is it difficult - yes for sure! But this choice has changed us all for the better. We are closer to each other and have a more intimate relationship with God. Most of us want to continue with 5 am learning, but first the group is going to be fasting for 7 days, liquids only. It is our first time fasting as a group and we are all excited!!!

HUNGRY AND THIRSTY

The Holy Spirit certainly keeps us busy!!! It is so true that the harvest is plenty but the laborers are few (Matthew 9:38) It has been a whirlwind of activity moving to many villages in Western Uganda and teaching the Bible. We have been going to places with no electricity, no running or safe water, and no network. The conditions are primitive but the people are so hungry for the truth of God's Word. Many of them can't read but still are thirsting for the truth. In one village we had to interpret for 5 languages, it was quite the feat, but the Holy Spirit managed it beautifully. In the past few months, over 300 people have been taught, 30 salvations from the students sharing the Gospel, 97 people filled with the Holy Spirit and 57 baptisms in water. Every village is calling for us to come back and teach more. The Holy Spirit truly is amazing. In addition, we have given out reading glasses, and medical care.

PATHWAYS TAKEN

It has been a busy time. Ministry in Western Uganda and even Kenya. We make our plans, set our goals, and even take steps of action. But when the Lord is in charge that pathway can and will change. Things we thought would go one way, turn out completely different. Lately I find that "all roads lead to" repentance. Our plan was to attend the Kenya National Day of Prayer and then do a little ministry at a home for the mental challenged; God's plan was to show me some things in my life that I needed to repent of. To God be the glory. I think we forget that everything we do, all we pass through, life's victories and challenges are all for the Glory of God, and when we are obedient to see the truth and live a life of repentance amazing things happen in our lives. For example, meeting and shaking hands with the president of Kenya...something I never even considered. As we continue on the path God has set us on, let us remember everything is for His Glory. 1 Cor. 10:31, 2 Cor. 4:15, 2 Cor. 1:20

TIME

Time seems to run, runs through my fingers. We blink and a week is over, then a month and even a year or years. Life is repetitive here and yet different at the same time. Every day the Lord gives us opportunities to have compassion, share the gospel and council others. over the last month I have been in Mbarara, Kampala, Kirema, Rukungiri, Busia and Miuge to name a few. It's been a whirlwind of activity and a great blessing to be able to witness God moving in the people here in Uganda. Even today the teaching the Lord allowed me to bring was all about the hidden secret things listed in the bible - some of these things are good like secret prayer, fasting and giving; and some are bad like hidden things of darkness in our hearts. What a blessing to learn about these things!! Tomorrow is more teaching and mentoring, it is exciting to face each day knowing God is bringing new opportunities!!

TIME

Well, time really does go so fast.  So much has happened. we had a student here from South Sudan learning for three weeks. We took a team of over 20 to a remote village in Busia to share the gospel for 4 days - it was amazing. Last night a Jaaja (senior citizen) asked to join the Bible school which is amazing! She is so hungry for the word. The Elementary school is in full swing! New teachers and lots of students ready to learn (school starts in February here). Looking forward to all that God has prepared for us!!!

GOD'S OPPORTUNITIES

well it's been a crazy few weeks! we took over 20 people to a village in Busia (4 hours away) and we ran unto something unexpected, it turned out to be a real spiritual battle. Without going into details, let me just say that we, as believers need to be guarding our salvation. Any one of us can fall into deception if we don't pay attention. What has happened there is truly heartbreaking and even goes as far as someone trying to literally steal the church we have worked so hard to build. But the Lord told me, "these demons think they have won, but the battle is the Lord's."  We wrestle not with flesh and blood but with principalities, powers and forces of spiritual darkness. God will not let his people be deceived so easily.

Then, we came back and had crusades every night for 6 days, and even today during the day, i went to minister about 30 minutes away, and then came back to do the crusade. (yup, i am one tired girl!) 

No matter what we face, God is always in control and it's times like these that I take real comfort in that truth.

CRUSADE

The last week has been filled with crusades, first we took a team of over 20 people to the village of Busia (3 hours away) and shared the gospel during the day and had crusades at night. We did this for 3 days and then came back and have been having 5 hour crusades every night! Exhausting but completely awesome as more and more people are coming to Jesus!

GROUP JOURNEY

Today is the day! The team of 5 along with 20 other villagers are headed out for a 3 day mission trip in Busia (about 4 hours away) I am so excited, I am going with them but then leaving for a few days for other ministry commitments, I can't wait to see how God moves and changes lives!

But today we had a challenge, one of the team got into a motorcycle accident and God kept his life, we are so blessed that his injuries are minor and he will fully recover and even the motorcycle had very minor damage so we are praising God for his goodness!

STUDY

today was a great day as the team prepares for their first mission trip about 4 hours away. So we have been studying very hard in preparation  for the work starting tomorrow. I won't be going with them, they get to spread their wings and do what they have been learning. I am very excited for them! I will be praying for Benard, Moses, Mwesigwa, Noah, Simeon and Sarah.

BLESSEDNESS

Today was very busy, the church is sending a team of about 30 to a village 4 hours away to do 3 days of ministry, including sharing the gospel house to house and crusades and water baptisms. So my team is in intinsive training to get ready, I am sending them on their own. I am so excited for them and for the village of Busia.

OPPORTUNITIES

Every day is a new opportunity to make choices, move, breathe and have our being. Today i go to help with medical needs, teach children, train bible school students and help plan for a three day ministry outreach that will take place 5 hours from here. A team of 30 people from the church is going to the village of Busia for three days to share the gospel, sing, teach, pray and offer general help to the people. This village doesn't have running water, toilets, electricity or hotel rooms. Everyone is sleeping on the dirt floor of the church. The people going all had to raise money and pay to go do ministry. What an amazing testimony. Be praying for this ministry it is happening next Wednesday....updates to follow.

BALANCE

The thing I think most missionaries have in common is the challenge of balance. How to balance the work and our personal boundaries and our own private time with God. After 8 years I am still learning how to do this, but I have found that scripture really really helps. I was in 2 Cor. 12:5-11 in the last few days and through it I am really learning that the first most important thing out of all things is that personal time with the Lord. He will work out the rest of the schedule. He must be our priority above all else. Also, God blessed me with a fresh killed hen and the Holy Spirit gave me a great recipe turned out totally awesome!!! What a mighty God we serve 🥰

NEW YEAR

It's a new year. The end of December marked 8 years here in Uganda full time. It is amazing to think it has been that long. A Lot of ministry has happened, people have been saved, baptized in water and the Holy Spirit, they have received medical care, small business help, food, clothes, shoes and lots of teaching. Schools, churches and clinics have been constructed, I have been all over Uganda in over 100 villages teaching, praying and baptizing. Every Thursday for the last 7 years I have been at a weekly prayer meeting in parliament and part of the committee for the National Day of Prayer here in Uganda. For sure I am blessed. There have been many difficult things that I have passed through but always God is in charge, the Holy Spirit leads the way, the Word of God lights my path and His mercy is New every single morning. What a great life, to follow the will of God. And now, he is even allowing me to minister in Pakistan via facetime, truly amazing! Can't wait to see what tomorrow brings.

ENTRY 3 OF 2024

Well, what an interesting few weeks. We had a visitor from our friend Janice who came from Florida and spent two weeks with a different ministry and then came to minister with us for a week. we went to over 11 villages, passed out soap and salt and prayed and ministered. Janice taught in three churches and did a great job explaining about faith in Jesus. We even did baptisms with over 40 people being baptized! it was a whirlwind of a week for sure, loved it so much!

Since then, the car needed repairs of $500, the power has been out for 3 days with still no end in sight, so the beef and chicken that was frozen now has to be cooked - it was enough for 3 months - about $150. The solar isn't working properly so at night we don't have any lights, the repair guy is coming tomorrow - another $100, construction on the bible school is continuing but the cost is about $700 more than quoted..none of this were planned events. But the Lord knows that money usually stresses me out so here is my opportunity not to be moved by these situations. surprisingly, I am steady, even though for sure I don't have most of the money needed. I am short by $178 on the car repair, will really miss that meat and chicken over the next three months, and still have to have the money to renew my passport next month.

Here is the thing, lately the Lord has had me in 1 Thes. 5 and the Word of God is really causing me to be steady. I know that because its the life of Jesus, and God's ministry everything will be taken care of because He is God and I am his child.  I am a child of the day Jesus is coming back, so why do I need to worry about money and provision? We don't need to worry about these earthy things, God will provide everything for His Glory.

Currently we have three live-in students for Bible school and these young men are really growing, I am so excited to see what God is doing in their lives! God gets all the glory in all things!!!

Entry 1 of 2024

January 2, 2024 - Tuesday

I had plans for the new year to be a part of the ministry in church, God had other plans. Turns out I had a bad infection and spent a few days getting treatment at a hospital in Kampala. The Lord is good though because my friend Molly and her husband took great care of me.

Yesterday we went with the ministry "Pearls of Uganda" (associated with Church by the Sea in Florida) to the slums of Kunogoga (means cold place) and gave food and prayed and ministered to the young women and girls there. It really was the perfect way to start the year!

Jer. 29:11-14 - There are our plans and there are God's infinite broad amazing beyond comprehension plans. God wants to give us an expected end. I think we make our plans and goals (especially at New Year) but we fail to see that God has an expected end. So, this year, he didn't let me make my goals and plans. He made me sit still. I have a strong idea about where things are headed but no detailed map and it's an awesome spiritual place to be in.

Today there are 5 young men who live in a room here on the compound and they come and study bible school every day, I know that will continue. They are really growing so much. There has been some money to come in to do more work on completing phase 1 of Bible school, so yay. And on a personal note, God has sent the materials so the B.A. degree can be done in time to graduate in May.

There are challenges ahead, and with God all things are possible, because this journey has an expected end as a member of His family and life eternal.

I look forward to what lies ahead!

SEASONS

For sure there are many seasons we go through in the Lord. Ecc. 3:1 "To every (thing there is) a season, and a time to every purpose under the heave." 

I am learning that not all missionaries are the same. If we team with people we need to know that we have the same spiritual beliefs so that we can truly be a team. Even in the midst of change, challenges or turmoil, God's ministry continues.

What a blessing to be teaching and mentoring and just witnessing the mighty  power of God. Today a drunk person came to our church (and our church is not the easiest place to get to) He listened and even came for prayer. I was so proud of the people of our church, they didn't judge or kick him out but they even prayed that he would come to a true salvation. How beautiful to see God work through his people.

NEW DAY, NEW YEAR, NEW PERSPECTIVE

New Year's eve in the village of Lweteega means we spent the whole day in church (from 10am - 2 am) and it was great! We praised and we danced; 3 of us leaders shared the word throughout the day. Different messages but the same pivotal point. (this is our year, God will break down the walls and that that our time is now - because it became our time the moment we accepted Jesus) We also took communion (twice, some people only stayed in the day and some only came after dark.) We anointed people with oil AND Did foot washing twice (different people each time - once at 12:15 in the morning.) It was so great to have the honor of washing and drying people's feet! (while we pray for them)

Even Donna (my current partner here for the next two years) allowed me to wash her feet (she was very touched) and she insisted on washing mine when everyone else was done. (truly it was the best time of ministry so far that she and i have shared!

It is 2023, and a new year. As always, Bible School, Mentoring, teaching in the villages and churches will continue. As the Word of God convicts me, I just want to repent every time, and allow God to change me, cause me to grow and to have more of the fruits of the Spirit (Gal. 5:22-26) love, joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance (self-control) : against such there is no law, we who belong to Jesus have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. We live in the Spirit and so we choose to walk in the Spirit, therefore, let us choose not to desire vain glory, provoking one another and envying one another.

For sure this is my personal scripture this year along with Psalms 16:8-11 (life verse) and Mark 9:49 (ministry verse) I know that I lack patience, gentleness and long-suffering. But, I desire those things, so lets see what God does!

AWESOME DAY

Today was great. we have been doing crusades in the village of Kirema and wow just a fantastic time in the Lord.  Day 9 of the 40 day fasting is also going great, learning a lot from the Lord, started in 1 Corinthians 7:34-35, just and incredibly intimate time with the Lord.  Also praying for Derrick (16 year old abandoned by his family) he has sickle cell. We just need provision for his medical needs and to provide for his housing and food needs. He is so much happier now, he really believed he was a dead person walking because his father refused to help him any more with medical. There is a big change in him now that he stays with us on the compound, praise God!

BUSY DAY

Everyday is a new  adventure, right now the primary school (elementary school)is out for a three week break. There are three terms in a year and usually the breaks are longer but because of covid 19, the school year is all messed up because the kids in the entire country were out of school for 2 years.

Because school is out, Sam (10) and Esther (13) spend their days with me and we work on leaning apps and projects, both kids are super smart. (they are pastor Ddungu's youngest children (of 8))

Tuesday, we pulled out the 2 wading pools, they and some neighborhood kids had a ball. It's quiet now but by May 4 it will be all active again :)

3RD ENTRY - TYPICAL DAY

So it rained all night and until about 11:00 this morning. When that happens, its great, we all just kind of lay around and relax enjoying the sound of the rain on the iron sheet roof. It has stopped now and we can hear hundreds of birds busy about their day. Excited to still be doing the daily online teachings on Facebook, right now we are in-depth into the death of Jesus. Really wonderful time of worship and intimacy in the Word.

TYPICAL DAY IN UGANDA

Fun with the kids today, we pulled out a little kiddie pool i have been saving and they had so much fun allll day playing, it was awesome!! Also, second day of fasting - success :). yesterday i got to speak with a pastor from the states and it was very encouraging. I am blessed!!
